根據美聯社消息，前任美國副總統華特·孟岱爾（Walter Mondale）逝世，享耆壽93歲。孟岱爾曾於1977年至1981年擔任美國前總統卡特（Jimmy Carter）的副手，並於1984年代表民主黨出馬總統大選，但最後以懸殊落差敗給雷根（Ronald Reagan）。
值得一提的是，卡特與孟岱爾是美國曆史上最長壽的白宮搭檔，如今孟岱爾辭世，留下現年96歲的卡特繼續維持目前仍在世的最長壽美國總統的稱號。
